I was stopped several times by regulars who wanted to harass me about Johnnyâs performance and my central importance to it. I laughed with them and pretended it hadnât made me want to fuck one of my best friends to within an inch of his life. When Lloyd said it was the hottest thing heâd seen in ages, I clapped him on the shoulder in thanks and headed right for the DJ booth.
âHey, stud,â Jack grinned. âEnjoying your fifteen minutes of fame?â
âTell me someoneâs recording this.â Mother occasionally recorded the shows to use in promotional videos. I hoped to hell he was recording tonight, because I wanted to be able to relive Johnnyâs performance at will for the foreseeable future. Also, I wanted to make damn sure Mother didnât plan on using the footage in anything at all. Ever. It may not have been a private performance, but it sure as hell felt personal.
Jackâs grin threatened to split his face clean in two. âYeah, of course. You think sheâd miss the opportunity to use this in a promo?â
Hallelujah. Jackpot! âMake sure I get the only copy of the video, yeah?â
Jack shook his head. âNo can do, bud. But Iâll make sure you get a copy. Iâll put the unedited footage on your desk myself.â
I gave him a smile. âYouâre the best, Jack.â
He laughed. âAny time, man.â He looked down at his control board as Aniâs song ended. âMotherâs gonna do a raffle drawing and then Zara Olivier is up. I tell you, Iâve been around here since the dawn of time and Iâve never seen Johnny do boy drag before, but, lawdy, the two of you were hot up there!â He cackled. âYou looked like you were about to go off in your pants!â
I licked my lips, tasting a hint of Johnnyâs lip gloss. I tapped my fingertip to my temple several times. âBaseball statistics.â I winked and left him laughing in his cage.
Julie was waiting for me with a shit-eating grin at the big bar. I flipped her off from ten feet away and she cracked up. She looked me up and down as I approached. âWhat?â I asked, more than a little defensively.
âSame pants and no stain. Iâm impressed.â
âFuck off.â
âI thought I was going to see your O-face for a minute there, big boy.â She plunked a mug of ice water in front of me. âNot that Iâve been dreaming about that or anything.â
âYouâre as bad as Jeremiah. Stop it.â
She laughed and moved off to tend to three waiting customers. She was back before I could suck down the blissfully cold water. âIt was hot,â she started again.
âShut up.â
âHowâd you do it?â
âDo what?â I watched Mother do her thing just so I wouldnât have to look at Julie. I was sure I was blushing, but, thankfully, it was too damn hot to tell.
âKeep from shooting off?â
I stared at her in shock. âDid you really just ask me that?â
She laughed. âYouâre such a prude, Eric.â
âI am not a prude. Youâre just a skank.
